ÖBB the National Austrian railways transports every year over 320 million of passengers. The electricity for trains and stations is generated entirely from renewable energy sources. ÖBB is one of the most punctual railway operators in Europe, with a punctuality of around 97 per cent in passenger transport. With over EUR 3 billion invested annually in railway infrastructure, ÖBB is building the railway system of tomorrow.

II. Onboard services

Railjet

The Railjet (RJ) is the most modern high-speed train in the ÖBB fleet. It offers passengers the highest possible levels of comfort. With a top speed of 230 kilometres per hour, the Railjet connects all of Austria, including Vienna airport, opening doors to the world!

International routes are connecting directly to the neighbouring countries such as Germany, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic or Switzerland.

The Railjet xpress (RJX) offers the fastest connection, stopping only in the state capitals between Vienna and Salzburg.

  • Eurocity / Intercity

    The Eurocity connects Austria with its neighbouring countries. Intercity trains are the addition to the Eurocity and the Railjet for national long-distance travels. Eurocity & Intercity offer two comfort classes and many services

    • 1st and 2nd class
    • air-conditioned open cars
    • comfortable seats and modern equipment
    • maximum speed: 200 km/h
    • number of seats depend on the neumber of cars
    • on-board restaurant offers food and beverages, in Eurocity only
    • 2 wheelchair spaces, wheelchair accessible toilet
    • dedicated compartment for ladies travelling alone
    • dedicated family compartment for our customers with babies or toddlers up to 3 years of age.

    ICE

    Modern, safe and comfortable: the Intercity-Express (ICE) is the second high-speed train to operate in Austria alongside the Railjet. In long-distance traffic, it reaches a top speed of 230 kilometers per hour

    ICE offers two comfort classes and many services

    Euronight

    In cooperation with partner railways (Croatian Railway HZ, Czech Railway CD, Hungarian Railway MAV, Polish Railway PKP, Slovakian Railway ZSSK, Swedish Railways SJ ), ÖBB offers further night trains throughout Europe in addition to its own ÖBB Nightjets. These are called EuroNight trains (EN)

    • Breakfast is including in each Couchette and sleeper reservation, except on Stockholm-Hamburg connection (breakfast is only available in the sleeping car)

      • Towels and toiletries (incl. soap, slippers and earplugs)
      • Fully made bed including blanket, sheets and pillow
      • Compartments can be locked from the inside, most of them from the outside too
      • Call system for contacting a train attendant directly from the compartment
      • Wake-up call at a specified time

    IV. Booking Horizon

    These trains can be booked up to 180 days in advance for the core routes




    V. Ticketing Time Limits

    TTL (Ticketing Time Limit) lasts half an hour from booking date/time


    VI. Exchange / Refunds

    • Exchange and refund policies vary depending on the type of fare purchased
    • Exchange and refund can only be performed before the download of the PDF ticket. Once it has been downloaded from OBB website, no refund/exchange will be possible
