Eurostar to / from London

  • July 22, 2024: The European Union will introduce its Entry/Exit System (EES) later this year. This new border control system is designed to increase accuracy and data integrity for border authorities, while speeding up the process for travellers once they’re registered.

What is EES?: The EES automatically records dates and places of entry to and exit from the Schengen area and replaces the manual stamping of passports. It applies to non-EU nationals travelling to the EU for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period).

Registration is free and can only be completed on the day of travel in the station. Travellers will need to: • provide their fingerprints • scan their passport • register a facial image • and answer four questions about their stay if they’re entering the EU. Some non-EU nationals are exempt. Find out more on the official EES website. Children are not exempt, although under 12s will not have to provide fingerprints.

How will the EES process work?: At London St Pancras International and Paris Gare du Nord, travellers will need to use self-service pre-registration kiosks before going through the ticket gates. Kiosks will be located in three areas at London St Pancras Int’l and at the entrance to the departures area on the Eurostar mezzanine in Paris.

Eurostar will soon announced a confirmed date for the EES launch. Eurostar will send out maps nearer the launch.

What else do customer need to know?: • Customers need to follow the recommended departure station arrival time which is shown on their ticket. The time required for EES pre-registration is included in the recommended arrival time. • Customers will still avoid border queues on arrival at their destination as EES registration is completed before they board the train at their departure station from their origin station. • Eurostar will launch an EES awareness campaign around 30 days before the system goes live to ensure customers are fully aware of what they need to do.

For more information about EES, visit the official EES website or contact the EU.

Eurostar has worked tirelessly with the Dutch government and their partners at NS and ProRail to find a solution that would have the least possible impact on customers, and maintain sustainable connections between the UK and the Netherlands.
These works include the creation of a new and much larger cross-Channel terminal for our services between London and Amsterdam. These important plans will ensure an enhanced experience for our customers in the future and the opportunity to grow our Dutch routes.
