Italy: delays & disruptions

Timetables in Italy may be revised following traffic disruptions. In case of disruptions, fewer services are operating and some routes are cancelled completely. You can find some details about those cancellations below.

Trenitalia: Strike on March 19th 2025 (Updated on 18th March 2025)

We wish to inform you of a strike scheduled from 9:01a.m. to 16:59 p.m. of Wednesday March 19th  2025, which may lead to train disruptions and cancellations.

Services before and after the strike may also be affected.

  • Station assistance: information is available at the ticket offices and Customer care desks in the station.

For Refunds you can request a full refund due to the strike exclusively via the  WebForm:

  • Before Departure: valid for any train
    • Frecce and Intercity/Intercity Notte trains: from the official announcement until train departure
    • Regional trains: from the official announcement until 12 p.m. on the day before strike
  • After Departure: only for canceled trains
    • Refunds can be requested within 12 months of the departure date.

Trenitalia: Tuscany Region: Weather Alert on 15th March 2025. (Updated on 15th March 2025)

Following the weather bulletin issued by the Tuscany Region, a reduction in commercial offerings is expected for Saturday 15 March on the following lines:

• Florence - Rome, on the route between Florence and Arezzo • Florence - Viareggio • Florence - Livorno • Lucca - Pisa

Traffic is suspended on the following lines:

• Florence - Borgo San Lorenzo - Faenza via Vaglia and Pontassieve - Borgo San Lorenzo due to damage caused by bad weather.

• Faenza – Florence between Faenza and Marradi following a weather alert issued by the Civil Protection.

On the Florence - Empoli line, traffic is slowed between Renai and Samminiatello due to damage caused by bad weather.

Regional trains may experience delays and be subject to route restrictions or cancellations.

Due to the impassability of the roads, bus services are not guaranteed.

NTV: RAILWAY ROMA AREA: RFI’s measures from 5 March 2025 to 27 April 2025. (Updated on 14th March 2025)

As established by the Railway Infrastructure Manager, from 5 March 2025 to 27 April 2025, some Italo trains have been rescheduled and/or partially cancelled.

Late arrival for following Italo trains: 9969, 9923, 9979, 9983, 9985, 9993, 9997, 9961, 9963, 8951, 8953, 8905, 8911, 8959, 8963, 8927.

Cancellation of the Roma Tiburtina stop for following Italo trains: 8111, 9915, 9919, 8143, 9928, 9932, 9952, 8158, 8915, 8923, 8920.

NTV: TRIESTE-VENEZIA LINE: RFI’s works on 28 December 2024, 11 and 18 January, 8 and 15 February, 8 and 15 March, 2025.  (Updated on 14th March 2025)

Due to works on the Trieste-Venezia line established by the Railway Infrastructure Manager, on 28 December 2024, 11 and 18 January, 8 and 15 February, 8 and 15 March, 2025, Italo 8902 and Italo 8918 have been rescheduled and partially cancelled.

NTV: SALERNO-REGGIO CALABRIA LINE: RFI’s works from 7 January 2025 to 16 March 2025. (Updated on 14th March 2025)

Due to works on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria line planned by the Railway Infrastructure Manager, from 7 January 2025 to 16 March 2025, the Italo trains 8111, 8143, 8134, 8158 and 8192 have been rescheduled.

Warning: Italo 8134, 8158 and 8192 have been rescheduled in advance.

NTV: RAILWAY MILANO AREA: RFI’s works from 18 February 2025 to 30 May 2025. (Updated on 14th March 2025)

Due to works close the Milano area planned by the Railway Infrastructure Manager, from 18 February 2025 to 30 May 2025, the Italo trains 9978 and 9992 have been rescheduled.

Trenitalia: Faenza - Florence line: circulation suspended between Faenza and Marradi on Friday 14 March due to weather alert. 

Following the weather alert issued by the Civil Protection, on Friday 14 March, train circulation is suspended between Faenza and Marradi.

Bus routes are planned with possible increase in travel times also in relation to road traffic.

National strike of FS and Trenord group staff from 9:00pm on Friday 7th to 9:00pm on Saturday 8th March. 

From 9:00 pm on Friday 7th to 9:00 pm on Saturday 8th March 2025, trains may be cancelled or changed due to a national strike by the staff of the FS Group, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord.

For regional transport, essential services are guaranteed in the event of a strike on weekdays from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00.

Industrial unrest may lead to changes to the service before it begins and after it ends.

Passengers who intend to cancel their trip can request a refund starting from the strike declaration:

- up to the departure time of the booked train, for Intercity and Frecce trains;

- until midnight on the day before the strike itself, for regional trains;

alternatively they can reschedule the journey, under similar transport conditions, as soon as possible, subject to seat availability.

Trenitalia: Pisa - La Spezia line: changes to train circulation due to infrastructure improvement works from Tuesday 7 January (Updated on 26th Feb)

From Tuesday 7 January 2025, due to infrastructure improvement works on the Pisa - La Spezia line, the following changes are planned:

• Frecciargento trains from Rome to Genoa, via Florence, will be subject to timetable changes with travel times extended from Tuesday 7 January to Sunday 30 March.

• Frecciargento trains from Genoa to Rome, via Florence, will be subject to timetable changes with travel times extended from Tuesday 7 January to Wednesday 30 April.

• Frecciabianca trains from Rome to Genoa - Milan - Turin, via Grosseto, will be subject to timetable changes with travel times extended from Tuesday 7 January to Sunday 30 March.

• Frecciabianca trains from Turin - Milan - Genoa to Rome, via Grosseto, will be subject to timetable changes with travel times extended from Tuesday 7 January to Wednesday 30 April.

• Intercity trains on the Naples - Sestri Levante, Rome - Ventimiglia, Milan - La Spezia/Livorno/Grosseto, Milan - Reggio Calabria, Turin - Salerno routes are subject to timetable changes on departure, including early departures, and on arrival, with lengthening of travel times.

• Intercity Night trains on the Turin - Salerno/Reggio Calabria routes are subject to timetable changes on departure, including early departures, and on arrival, with lengthening of travel times.

• Regional trains on the Pisa - La Spezia - Savona, Florence - La Spezia, Parma/Pontremoli - La Spezia, Milan/Bergamo - Pisa/Livorno via Pontremolese, Borgo Val di Taro/Pontremoli - Pisa/Florence routes are subject to route limitations, cancellations and lengthening of travel times.

Trenitalia: Florence - Rome line: changes to train circulation due to extraordinary maintenance work from Tuesday 7 January to Tuesday 4 March (Updated on 21st Feb)

From Tuesday 7 January to Tuesday 4 March, due to infrastructure improvement works on the Florence - Rome line, the following changes are planned by Trenitalia. Some Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains on the Florence - Rome high-speed line are subject to timetable changes with possible journey lengthenings of up to 10 minutes or will not stop at Rome Tiburtina.

Some Frecciarossa trains bound for Fiumicino Airport end their journey at Rome Termini.

Intercity trains on the Milan - Naples/Salerno/Reggio Calabria, Prato - Naples, Rome - Florence/Prato/Trieste Rome - Ancona/San Benedetto del Tronto/Perugia routes and Intercity Notte trains on the Rome - Trieste/Brennero, Turin - Salerno routes are subject to timetable and stop changes.

Some regional trains on the Rome - Florence/Chiusi/Terontola/Orte, Rome - Ancona, Rome - Perugia, Rome - Terni/Foligno, Fiumicino Airport - Orte/Fara Sabina, Florence - Arezzo/Terontola/Foligno, Prato - Chiusi/Arezzo, Vernio - Arezzo routes are subject to timetable or stop changes, route restrictions and do not stop at Rome Termini.

Some regional trains on the Florence - Borgo San Lorenzo - Faenza (via Vaglia), Florence - Borgo San Lorenzo (via Pontassieve) and Arezzo/Montevarchi - Prato/Pistoia routes are subject to timetable changes.

Trains RV 4116, RV 4106, RV 4107, RV 4108, R 18734, R 18744, R 18715, R 18732 and R 18822 are subject to route restrictions, timetable changes, changes to stops and frequency.

From Monday 13 January, trains RV 4116, R 18734 and R 18744 will undergo further changes to their timetable, route and stop changes.

Trenord : Staff strike from 3:00 on Wednesday 5th to 2:00 on Thursday 6th February (Updated on 5th Feb).

From 3:00 on Wednesday 5th to 2:00 on Thursday 6th February, a strike by Trenord staff is underway, proclaimed by the Trade Unions.

Regional and suburban trains in Lombardy and neighbouring regions, the airport connections Milan – Malpensa Airport and Malpensa Airport – Bellinzona and Trenord long-distance trains may be subject to changes.

The guaranteed time slots are from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00.

To ensure the connection with the airport, in case of train cancellations, a bus service without intermediate stops will be set up between Milan Cadorna (via Paleocapa, 1) and Malpensa Airport and between Stabio and Malpensa Airport.

Trenitalia regional trains on the Milan - Domodossola route may also be subject to changes.
